Lynden Christian junior guard Danya Dykstra looks to get the ball inside.
  • Lynden Christian 59, Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) 51

Despite a strong finish by the Eagles, the Lyncs were able to keep a steady pace in the first three quarters and pull out the regional victory to send them into the quarterfinal round of the state tournament.

Lynden Christian turned the ball over 24 times, but was able to make up for it by holding Lakeside to just 29% shooting from the field.

Junior Grace Hintz hit five of her eight shots from the floor, and five of six from the charity stripe, and led the way with 16 points. Sophomore guard Ella Fritts pitched in with 13 points, four rebounds and four assists.

Senior forward Tabby DeJong grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds and finished with six points.

The Lyncs play at Yakima on Thursday at 7:15 against the winner of the Eatonville/King’s game.

  • Nooksack Valley 75, Toppenish 36

The Wildcats were scrappy, and poured everything they had into this game to be down just six after one quarter, but the Pioneers proved again that they are on a mission that showed zero signs of derailment.

Nooksack Valley scored 24 points in the second quarter, and went on to hold Toppenish to just 12 points in the second half.

Senior guard Devin Coppinger demonstrated excellence in every phase of the game as she led with 28 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the floor. She also made 11 of her 13 free throw attempts, had eight assists, nine rebounds and four steals.

Senior forward Lainey Kimball finished with 18 points, with her last two coming on a left-handed shot from 10 feet out. She also posted six rebounds and six steals, and senior guard Kaylee Anderson knocked down four of her seven shots from behind the arc as she added 14 points.

The win sets up the top-ranked Pioneers to play at 5:30 in the quarterfinal round of the state tournament against the winner of Wednesday’s Bellevue Christian/Seattle Academy game.
