Whatcom County Sweeps District Tennis Championships

BELLINGHAM – Bayhawk senior Lowa Gresham continued her dominant season by capturing the singles district championship on Monday at Sehome High School.

Gresham didn’t lose a single set on her way to the championship, in which she defeated Bernadine Salvatierra of Squalicum 6-4, 6-2.

Salvatierra defeated Bellingham’s Ellie Wolverton in the round of eight in a tightly contested match, 6-3, 5-7, 6-2, and Wolverton ended up winning out after that, lastly defeating Lynden’s Sierra Wyant for third place.

The top three finishers have advanced to the state tournament, along with Wyant as an alternate.

In the district doubles tournament it was Lynden’s Adia and Kalanie Newcomb that won the championship in hard fought 6-4, 7-5 match over Bellingham’s Kira Carlson and Ella Morrow.

The state tennis tournament will take place on May 26th and 27th at the Nordstrom Tennis Center in Seattle.
