Lynden Christian 4, Meridian 1

The Lyncs scored two runs in the fourth, and two more in the fifth to defeat the Trojans at Joe Martin Field in an elimination game of the 1A bi-district playoffs. Brody Bouwman’s line drive double to left field scored Eli Maberry to tie the game at one, and that was followed up by a single to right field by Isaac Paxton which scored Austin Engels. Logan Brink and Jonah Terpstra each scored in the following inning on base hits by Lane Dykstra and Engels. Dykstra got the complete game win, as he scattered seven Meridian hits, and allowed just the one run. The Trojans’ season ended with a 13-10 record.

A huge second inning, which saw the Lions score eight runs, lifted Lynden past the Mariners in an elimination game of the 2A district playoffs. Senior catcher Kobe Baar led the offense with three runs batted in, while fellow seniors Lane Heeringa and Jesus Ortiz each had two RBI’s. Bubba Parcher allowed just three hits over four innings of work, and Lincoln VanDiest pitched the final inning. Sehome’s season came to an end with a 6-16 record.

Senior pitcher Isaac Paxton, pitching in his second elimination game this postseason, hurled a 3-hit shutout against the Knights and the Lyncs have advanced to the state tournament for the first time in 20 years. The Lyncs jumped out to a 4-0 lead before King’s even had an at bat. Brody Bouwman smashed two doubles and drove in three runs. Lynden Christian will know its opponent, location, date and time today at some point.

Junior Lane Simonsen did it again, this time twirling a 2-hitter while striking out 14 batters in the biggest game of the season for the Lions. He also did it without walking a single batter, as 79% of his pitches were strikes. Lynden again used a big second inning to jump ahead, this time putting up five runs in the inning. Bubba Parcher reached base four times, with a double and three walks. The Lions have advanced to the state playoffs, and will know their opponent, location, date and time today at some point.
