2A District Championship:
Lynden 10, Sehome 0
Lynden 10, Sehome 0
After having to comeback from big deficits in their first two district playoff games, it was a completely different script for the Lions in the championship game as they scored four runs in the first inning and six runs in the following inning before winning their first district championship in 10 years. Senior second baseman Matthew Carroll continued to swing a hot bat in the tournament as he went 2-for-2 with three runs batted in and a run scored to lead the Lynden offense. Sophomore catcher Joe Bense also drove in three runs, while juniors Gordy Bedlington and Dawson VanDalen each scored a pair of runs. Senior Spencer Adams also got his first start of the year on the mound, and Whatcom County’s leading hitter showed what he could as a pitcher as he sat down 12 of the 13 batters he faced. Bedlington pitched the final inning, throwing all strikes. The Lions and the Mariners will each have to wait until Sunday to see what seed they get in the first round of the state tournament.
