Blaine 2, Nooksack Valley 1
After a scoreless first half, the Borderites got on the board with an early second half goal with a header from senior Dima Yuryev. Pioneer junior Jaden Jones had a breakaway goal to knot the game up at 1-1, but Yuryev scored once again with less then five minutes left in the match to help keep the season alive for Blaine. The Pioneers’ season came to a close. The Borderites will take on Lynden Christian at 1:00 on Saturday at Blaine High School for a state berth.
Meridian 2, Lynden Christian 1
The 1A district championship game came down to penalty kicks, and when senior Damion Hayes punched it into the back of the net it sealed the deal for the Trojans who won their fourth straight district title. The Lyncs had the initial goal of the game on a penalty kick from Isaac Scott, but Meridian was able to tie it up a little later in the second half when a perfectly placed corner kick from Cayson Williams was tapped in by Omar Abdo. The Trojans will now move on to the state tournament, and the Lyncs will battle Blaine at 1:00 on Saturday at Blaine High School for the final state berth.
