After two scoreless innings, the Bulldogs put up two runs in the top of the third inning, but they were answered in the bottom of the inning when Braylon O’Breen doubled home Nolan Boleak, who had singled in the at bat prior. A single by Fenton Vasak moved O’Breen to third base, who then scored on a fielder’s choice. The Golden Eagles then took the lead over the defending state champions in the bottom of the fourth inning when Boleak hit a two-out single up the middle to score Carson Brown. However, the Mount Vernon bats wouldn’t stay quiet for long as they produced seven runs over the final three innings. O’Breen finished with three hits, including two doubles, and he scored twice.
