YAKIMA – After a sluggish first quarter, the Lions rattled off 40 points in the next two periods before defeating Sammamish 58-41 in the quarterfinals of the boys 2A state tournament.

Junior Brant Heppner showed his inside/outside game with 25 points scored on 11-of-19 shooting as well as seven rebounds. The 6-foot-6 forward also connected on three of his seven three point attempts.

Senior Anthony Canales, who became the Lynden’s all-time leading scorer last week, suffered an off-shooting night but still managed to post a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Senior center Ty Holleman came off the bench to hit all four of his field goal attempts for eight points.

The top-ranked Lions (22-4) will face Bremerton (21-6) at 7:15 tomorrow night in the semifinals.
