LAUREL – The Mount Baker fastpitch team started off the 2021 season in a big way, with a 12-1 win over Meridian on Monday.

Mountaineer center fielder Taite Reardon belted a two-run homerun to centerfield in the second inning to get the scoring underway.

Meridian junior Jenna Gray scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the third inning, which brought the game within one for the Trojans, but that would be the only run scored by Meridian as Mount Baker junior pitcher Kaitlyn Rosenburg was in the zone throughout the game.

Rosenburg pitched the complete game, giving up just two hits while striking out eight. She also helped out her own cause by knocking in three runs. Madison Barter had a big game for Baker as well, going 3-for-4 with three RBI’s and two runs scored.

Mount Baker catcher Kerianna Cronk smacked two doubles, and junior shortstop Ashlynn Cloninger had a pair of hits, and scored two runs.

Meridian got hits from catcher Jolena Hoefer and third baseman Malaysia Smith.

The same two teams will meet each other again on Wednesday at 4:30, this time in Deming.
