In the semifinals of the 2A state tournament, the Lions took an early 1-0 lead when Campbell DeJong sent the sixth pitch of the game about 25 feet over the left field wall, but the Monarchs answered with a run in the bottom of the second inning. The score remained tied until the bottom of the fourth when Mark Morris hit a 2-run double, and they added on in the following two innings. Lynden junior Lydia Somma hit her second homerun of the state tournament in the final inning, but the Lions had to settle for the loss against the eventual state champions.

Port Angeles 8, Lynden 7

Facing elimination in the 90 degree heat, the Lions struck first when Charlotte Somma singled home Sarah McVie in the top of the first inning. The Roughriders then showed how rough they could be when they scored four runs in the bottom of the third inning, but Lynden wouldn’t go down without a fight. The Lions added five runs in the top of the fourth inning, which was highlighted by walks, singles and stolen bases, and they led 6-4, but Port Angeles took the lead back in the bottom of the inning thanks to an RBI single and a three-run homerun. Down by two, Campbell DeJong led off the final inning with a homerun to center field, but that would be the final run of the game, and the season, for the Lions who finished with a record of 21-6.
