The Lions started out on the right foot as they got a pair of quick goals from sophomore Markus Koenen. Senior Nate Castellon assisted on the first goal, and then scored a goal himself on an assist from Eddy Briseno. Malachi Koenen then booted one through, and Ivan Garcia-Zapata followed up with a header which was assisted by Dhiaan Sandhu. The final Lynden goals came from Sam Arango, Judah Braun, Hale Van Dyk and Oakley Nunnikhoven.
Lynden Christian 2, Blaine 0
Last year, the Lyncs’ season came to a close at Blaine High School when the Borderites defeated them in the district playoffs. This time, the Lyncs made sure about the win as Keegan Deming scored an unassisted goal, and Harvest Howell scored on an assist from Grant Adams. Gavin VanLoo recorded the shutout in the net with five saves.
Meridian 7, Mount Baker 0
It was all Trojans as Bryan Zarza scored twice, and Skyler Rowe scored once and had two assists to lead Meridian to the victory. Adrian Meza and Omar Abdo each also had a goal and an assist. Sagar Virk and Carter Nichols also recorded goals, while assists came from Oliver Nichols and Denali Frierott.
Squalicum 6, Burlington-Edison 1
Storm junior Maddox Strickland was up to his old tricks again, as he recorded his second hat trick of the season as Squalicum remained unbeaten on the season. The Storm also received goals from Kellen Savage, Cole Oswalt and Cody McCaulley in the home win over the Tigers.
Ferndale 0, Sedro-Woolley 0
The Golden Eagles finished last season with five ties, which tied for the most in Whatcom County. Ferndale was able to hold the Cubs scoreless on the road, but was unable to find the back of the net as well.
