EVERETT – The Wildcats hadn’t played a game in three weeks, and they looked ready to go as they scored the first four touchdowns of the game on their way to a 35-14 win over the Lions at Terry Ennis Stadium on Thursday night.
The run-heavy home team put together multiple time-consuming drives that usually ended up with touchdowns, and they kept the ball on the ground while doing so. Archbishop Murphy was able to possess the ball for 60 plays, and ran on 58 of them.

The time of possession eluded Lynden, which was only able to run 34 plays as the Wildcat defense was able to contain the run game for the most part, other than a 62-yard touchdown run by senior running back Dawson VanDalen. The usual potent Lion run game averaged less than two yards per run play before VanDalen ripped off his scoring run in the third quarter.
The Wildcats scored again in the fourth quarter to make it a 35-7 game, and Lynden countered on the next play from scrimmage when senior quarterback Gordy Bedlington found junior wide receiver Lawsen DeBoer over the middle for a 65-yard touchdown play. It was DeBoer’s first varsity touchdown, and his third varsity reception.
Senior linebacker Landon Tolsma led the Lynden defense with 12 tackles, while VanDalen finished with 8.5 stops and senior linebacker Adam Holman added 7.5 tackles. Senior defensive tackle Zach Dykstra had 6.5 tackles, including two stops behind the line of scrimmage.
The Lions (7-2) will find out today who their next opponent will be this upcoming weekend in the 2A Round-of-32.
