Lynden 5, W.F. West 4

It was a game of “can you top this?” as the Lions would score a run, and the Bearcats would score a run. The Lions would score two runs, and the Bearcats would score two runs. After seven innings of play, neither team was able to top the other one. Lynden scored in the top of the eighth inning, and W.F. West failed to do so in the bottom of the inning, partially due to the defensive play of senior Childrey DeJong who caught a fly ball and doubled a runner off. Senior Trinity Andrew finished the job by striking out the final batter. Andrew finished with 15 strikeouts, while Campbell DeJong and Sierra Alexander each had a pair of hits. Senior catcher Kasi Thomas also drove in two runs with a double.

The Lions stayed alive in the 2A state tournament by racking up 18 hits, and scoring 12 runs as Lynden put away the Warriors. Sophomore Campbell DeJong once again did her Rickey Henderson impersonation by leading the game off with a homerun, and that proved to be the fuse that set the Lion bats on fire. DeJong, along with Trinity Andrew and Sierra Alexander each collected three hits. Alexander and Callie Ramerman each drove in a pair of runs, as did senior Hannah Saur who came off the bench to drive in two runs with a shot up the middle. Andrew picked up her 18th win of the season, and the Lions will continue their season at 10:00 am against Othello in another loser-out contest.
