LYNDEN – After scoring 25 runs in the last two outings, the Lynden Lions (3-0) had to play some small ball to come away with a 3-0 win over the visiting Squalicum Storm (1-2) on Friday afternoon.

“I thought we ran the bases well, going from first to third,” Lynden Assistant Coach Mike Regis shared. “Having only six hits, we did a great job manufacturing some runs.”

Leading 1-0 after two innings, Marcos VanderVeen got onboard with a lead of walk. After a sacrifice bunt by Brenden Kleindel, and a bloop single by Trevin Hope, Jordan Holmstrom hit a sac-fly to center to score VanderVeen to make it 2-0. That would be all Hope needed to pick up the win.

Hope pitched another gem, going the distance, while giving up only two Storm hits and striking out 13, to finish up with the complete game shutout.

Opposite Hope, starter August Williams gave the Storm a tremendous effort as well, pitching five full innings, giving up only three runs (two earned), on five hits, also striking out five. Yet, Josh Boysen and Trent Miller were the only two Squalicum batters able to get a base hit off of Hope on the afternoon.

The Lions were led at the plate by Dillon Geleynse who finished the day 2-3, with a single, a double, and a run scored.

Next up, Lynden heads to Cedarcrest today, for at 12:00 first pitch, while the Storm will be off until they travel to Burlington-Edison (3-0) to take on the Tigers, Monday at 4:00.
