DUVALL – Lynden played well in all three facets of the game, and came away with a victory over Cedarcrest 51-21 on Friday night.

The offense rolled up 475 yards, the defense scored a touchdown and junior Troy Petz had another stat-filled night in the special teams game.

Slayton

The 354 yards rushing was the best output the Lions have had in over two years, and it wealth was spread out pretty evenly between a host of underclassmen. Junior Campbell Nolte led the way with 100 yards on 10 carries, while junior Lane Heeringa added 90 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries, and junior Chris Elenbaas rumbled for 92 yards and a touchdown on just five carries.

Senior outside linebacker Cade Slayton scored his first varsity touchdown, and it came when Nolte batted an attempted pass in the air, and Slayton pulled it out of the sky and raced 70 yards untouched.

Junior quarterback Kaedan Hermanutz had another balanced game, completing 10-of-18 passes for 121 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 44 additional yards on five carries. His touchdown recipients were junior Isaiah Stanley and senior Kole Antypas, both of whom caught four passes on the evening.

Winterberg

The offensive line had an amazing game, as there weren’t any plays that were stopped for a loss, and the Lions averaged nearly 10 yards per rushing play.

The Lynden defense stopped the Red Wolf offense for a loss on 12 separate plays, and leading the way were senior inside linebacker Taivin Van Dalen and junior defensive lineman Luke Winterberg. Both players were each involved with three tackles for loss, and senior cornerback led his team with 6.5 tackles and a forced fumble.

The Lions (4-1) will host Lakewood (2-3) on Friday at 7:00.
