Sehome 4, Squalicum 0

Kaepernick
Ketteridge

Small ball, and finding ways to manufacture runs did the job for the Mariners. Scoring four runs on just one hit doesn’t happen very often, but Sehome took advantage of every possible opportunity. Not to be overlooked was the continuing dominance of sophomore pitcher Jacob Kaepernick. He won his fourth game of the season, and lowered his ERA to 0.60. The lone hit for the Mariners was by senior Mel Ketteridge, and his line shot to center field scored fellow senior Trevor Seaholm. A throwing error later scored Ketteridge and Lukas DeLisle. August Williams pitched well for the Storm, striking out 10 batters. He also picked up one of the three Squalicum hits, along with Tate Carlson and Lukas Nickelson.

Ferndale 8, Lynden Christian 0

Hatchett
Ebe

To say that lefty Geirean Hatchett was on his game against Lynden Christian on Tuesday would be an understatement. When the 6-foot-5 junior is consistently throwing strikes, he can be as dominant as anyone in the county, and it showed against the Lyncs. Hatchett went six innings, giving up just one hit while striking out 11. The Golden Eagle offense was aggressive (six stolen bases), and managed to score in every inning. Senior second baseman Ryan Whipkey knocked in three runs, and fellow senior shortstop Bryan Ebe was able to reach base all four times he came to the plate. Sophomore Preston Mark’s double was the only hit for LC.

Blaine senior Ben Wallen came into the game leading Whatcom County in both batting average and earned run average, and his brilliance didn’t let up against the Cougars. It was another shut out victory for the righty, and the Borderite offense put pressure on Lakewood the entire game. Wallen and Chase Abshere each knocked in two runs and fellow senior Nick Gunderson reached base all four times he was up to bat.
