Sehome 2, River Ridge 1 – The Mariners rallied for two runs in the bottom

of the fifth inning to give senior Evan Kingma, Western Oregon signee, his first win of the season in his first outing. He went six innings, striking out six without giving up a run. Josh Manson picked up his third save of the season. Freshman Tim Malo got a single and scored in the fifth inning and freshman Jacob Kaepernick also got an RBI single in the fifth. Josh Manson made several great plays at shortstop.

 

Ferndale 9, Mark Morris 7 (Game 1)/Ferndale 15, Mark Morris 14 (Game 2) – The Golden Eagles picked up their first two wins of the season

Ebe

in a double header against the Monarchs at Anacortes. In the opening game senior Ethan Strom picked up the win on the mound and Jakob Strom got the save in relief. Junior shortstop Bryan Ebe was 3-for-3 with a double and a triple, and he scored a pair of runs. Junior Brett Westford also scored two runs, and had two hits. Ferndale’s offense exploded in the second game with James Hinson picking up four hits. Reid Benson, Michael Bernard and Westford each picked up a pair of hits. Benson picked up the win on the mound.

 

Cedarcrest 6, Lynden 4 – Despite out-hitting the Wolves nine to four, the Lions just couldn’t put the runs across as they lost their first game of the season. Trevor Abitia went 2-for-3, and knocked in three runs, giving him a Whatcom County-high 12 RBI’s on the young season. Trevin Hope picked up three hits in four at bats, and Marcos Vander Veen had two hits. Dylan Parcels pitched brilliantly in relief, allowing one hit in three and 2/3 innings, while striking out seven.

 

Lynden Christian 13, Orcas Island 3 (Game 1)/Lynden Christian 18, Orcas Island 1 (Game 2) – Lyncs junior Damyn Dykstra cranked a home

run in the first game, and had three RBI’s. Senior Tanner Jansen led LC with three hits and senior Dylan VanderYacht stole four bases. Senior pitcher Jared Smit picked up the win. It was more of the same in the second game as sophomore Jake Terpstra got the win. The three freshmen also had a great game with Cole Moorlag knocking in three runs, Shale Whittern was 3-for-3 with four RBI’s while Luke Johnson had two hits and scored three runs.

 

Nooksack Valley 10, Mount Baker 0 – The Pioneers remained undefeated

Neitling

by topping the Mountaineers. Easton Zylstra got the win, pitching a two-hit shut out, and he struck out seven. Evan Neitling went 2-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored, three stolen bases and three RBI’s. The Veldman brothers (Kirk and Kyle) each picked up a pair of hits. The Mounties got hits from Hayden Linderman and Michael Kentner.

 

River Ridge 5, Bellingham 3 – Nick Knuston went 4-for-4, Kyle Payne and

Knutson

Nick Posey each batted 2-for-2, but it wasn’t enough against River Ridge. Knutson pitched well, allowing just four hits and one run over five innings, and Ethan Berschauer added a couple of hits for the Red Raiders.
