BLAINE – Six school records, including two Whatcom County records, were broken on Thursday night as the Borderites defeated Sultan 48-21 at home.

It was a perfect night for football, and apparently, an even more perfect night to throw the football as junior quarterback Connor Brown completed 33-of-48 passes for 567 yards and seven touchdowns. His 567 passing yards set a new Whatcom County record, which was held by former Lynden quarterback and former Major League Baseball player Ty Taubenheim who threw for 514 yards in the season finale against Squalicum in 1999.
His seven touchdown passes also set a new standard in Whatcom County. The previous record of six had been accomplished 11 times by eight different players.
Brown spread the wealth as junior wide receiver Isaac Bouma had a pair of 68-yard touchdown receptions in the first half, and then caught a 14-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter. He finished with 11 receptions for a school-record 260 yards. The previous record was held by Todd Bird who had 223 receiving yards against Notre Dame (BC), 16 years ago.

Another main target was junior wide receiver Hunter Candanoza who caught 18 passes for 226 yards and a touchdown. His 18 receptions in a single game set the new school record which was also set by Bird in 2010, against Bellingham.
Sophomore wide receiver Jackson Bogaards and freshman tight end Dmitriy Shvorak each caught touchdown passes in the first half as well. Bogaards finished with three receptions for 79 yards, as he also caught another touchdown pass in the third quarter.
In the midst of the game, Brown also set new school records during the game for career passing yards as well as career passing touchdowns. Brown now sits at 3949 passing yards in his career, and the previous record was 3424 by Caleb Luehmann, who held the record for 29 years.

Brown also now has 41 passing touchdowns in his career, which broke the school record of 37 which was held by Nathan Kramme for 12 years. Brown also already holds the career record for pass completions, and he is just a junior.
The Borderite defense also played extremely well, as it allowed just one touchdown. The other two Turk scores came on defense and special teams. Blaine senior linebacker Axel Shelton finished with 10.5 tackles and a tackle for loss, and junior linebacker Matt Campion added eight tackles and a fumble recovery. They also each had an interception in the game.
The Borderites (3-5) will be back in conference play on Thursday when they go on the road to Lynden Christian (5-2) to take on the Lyncs at 7:00.
