Lynden Christian 16, Columbia 6
In the opening round of the 1A State Tournament, the Lyncs avoided early elimination with a convincing win over the Bruins. After Columbia took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, Lynden Christian countered with a solo homerun off the bat of junior Roxanne Lenning, which was also her fifth straight game with a homerun. Lenning then shut the Bruins down over the next three innings, where she didn’t allow a single run. In the meantime, Brooke VanLoo was an extra-base machine as she clubbed three doubles and a triple, while knocking in six runs, and Kensley VanSoest was also swinging a hot bat as she went 3-for-3, with four runs driven in. With the win, Lynden Christian will take on third-seeded Seton Catholic (21-3) tomorrow at 1:00 in the quarterfinal round of the tournament.
