One week after scoring 44 points in her final basketball game, Pioneer senior Payton Bartl struck out seven batters and didn’t allow a base hit over four innings as she helped her team to the road victory. She also did damage offensively with three hits and two runs scored. Senior second baseman Kestyn Wagter scored four runs, while seniors Gracie Rutgers and Grace DeHoog each drove in a pair of runs. Mariner senior pitcher Sarah Kruzich struck out nine batters in her complete game effort.

After multiple games getting cancelled to begin the season, the Borderites had a rough opener on the road against the Tigers. Blaine got hits from Aaliyah Bowman and Susannah Bogle, but were unable to push any runs across in their first of two games on Friday.

Lynden 17, Mt. Rainier 1

The Lions scored multiple runs in every inning as they totaled 23 hits and didn’t commit a single error in the field to pick up the complete victory on the road. Junior Callie Ramerman went 5-for-5 at the plate with a double and six runs driven in. She also picked up her second win of the season while striking out 11 and allowing just two hits. Campbell DeJong went 3-for-4 with four runs batted in, three runs scored and a pair of stolen bases. Lynden also got a pair of hits from Sarah McVie, Kasey DeJong, Jazz Terpstra and Lydia Somma.

The Borderite bats woke up in their second game of the evening as Blaine crushed five home runs as a team to pick up its first win of the season. Senior catcher Aaliyah Bowman hit two solo blasts as well as a double, and senior Mesa Puls also launched two homeruns, including a grand slam. Leanna Sacknoff also doubled and hit a homer. Courtney Roff and Nevaeh Zaddack each had a pair of hits, and freshman Charley Bakker picked up her first varsity win in the circle.
