Lynden Christian 2, Nooksack Valley 1 (9 innings)
Lynden Christian 2, Nooksack Valley 1
In a pitching duel between the school’s senior quarterbacks, Eli Maberry and Evan Brown, it came down to the bullpens, as they each handed off to their running backs to finish the game. It was an early 1-1 game after Maberry singled in the first, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on another wild pitch in the top of the first inning. The Pioneers came back to score in the bottom of the second when senior Landen Stauffer doubled, and was sacrificed to third base by sophomore Tyler Martin. He then scored two batters later on an error in the infield. The score was locked at 1-1 until the top of the ninth when senior Trey Johnson singled to right field, and then advanced to second base when senior Sam Kok drew a walk. A wild pitch advanced both runners, and sophomore Tanner Blair, who came in to run for Johnson, was now 90-feet away from being the go-ahead run. A hard ground ball off the bat of Vance Elton resulted in an error, and Blair scored to give Lynden Christian the lead. Johnson remained on the mound to get the final three outs in the bottom of the inning to pick up his first win of the season.
