Puls

The Borderites opened up their season with a strong win as sophomore shortstop Axel Puls reached base three times, including a 2-run double in the fourth inning, and pitchers Kyle Turnberg and Aiden Holley had great performances on the mound. Blaine opened the game up in the second inning with two outs when Puls hit a fly ball to the outfield with the bases loaded. With all the runners moving on contact, and the ball being misplayed, it allowed all three runs to score. It proved to be the difference in the game. Meridian senior third baseman Ethan Brooks led the Trojan offense, going 2-for-3 with a two-run double and a walk.

Brown

Mount Baker got on the board early with five first-inning runs off of Bellingham’s starting pitcher Wyatt Harris. From there, Marques Brown was able to keep Bellingham’s bats silent, striking out 15 batters in six innings of one-hit baseball. Landon Kerzman was the only Red Raider to register a hit off of Brown, a one-out triple in the fourth inning. The Mountaineers were able to bat around in the first and sixth innings, starting and finishing with a hit barrage that gave Brown the room he needed to operate from the mound. Bellingham’s lone run came in the bottom of the third inning, as Finn O’Malley drew a walk. When O’Malley stole second base, a pair of defensive miscues allowed him to score.
