BELLINGHAM – The Cubs needed a win to secure the #3 berth from the Northwest Conference, and they got it by dominating Squalicum 42-3 at Civic Stadium on Thursday night.

The loss ended the Storm’s chances for a postseason berth.

It was all Sedro-Woolley from beginning to end, as the Cubs racked up 441 yards of total offense, and held Squalicum to just 204 yards.

Ortiz-McAlister

Sophomore running back Marcus Nixon came back from being injured last week to lead the Storm in rushing with 66 yards on 14 carries, before leaving the game with another injury in the second half.

Squalicum’s deep passing game was heavily affected by win and rain, but the short passing game had it’s moments. Sophomore slot receiver Joaquin Ortiz-McAlister caught seven passes for 64 yards to lead the Storm.

A 34-yard field goal by senior Kai Sonnon with 6:13 left in the second quarter was the only scoring for Squalicum.

Senior safety Nick Watt led defensively with 12.5 tackles, while seniors Mason Myers, Bryan Sheedy and Hayden Hollingsworth each had a tackle for a loss.

The Storm (4-5) are still planning to play a week 10 game, but the opponent and location has not been determined at this point.
