BELLINGHAM – Before the season started, the Sehome Mariners were confident in their baseball team. A lot of players returned from last season’s 5th place finishing squad, but the pitching rotation might have been a little “up in the air”. One player that continuously answered the bell for Sehome was senior Patrick Miksovsky. So much so, that the Mariners trusted him with the ball in

a do-or-die game at home against Sammamish on Tuesday night. Miksovsky answered the bell one more time as the right hander put forth his best effort of the season in Sehome’s 5-0 win over the Totems.

Miksovsky’s biggest asset on Tuesday was his control. He pitched the complete game without walking a batter, and he gave up just three base hits. It would have been four but a line drive to right field in the fourth inning was scooped up by senior Mel Ketteridge and he fired an absolute strike to first baseman Jacob Kaepernick to get the putout.

Offensively, every player in the Mariner starting lineup reached base. Collectively, Sehome walked nine times and picked up six hits. Senior catcher Lukas DeLisle had RBI hits in each of his first two at bats, the first of which was a double. Senior third baseman Ethan Brown also had a double, and senior second baseman Makana Grondin smacked a triple to right-center field in the third inning.

The Mariners (14-7) will face Lynden (15-4) at noon this Saturday at Daniels Field in Anacortes. Sehome beat the Lions 1-0 on March 28th in what was one of the best games of the year.
