Grace Potter is narrowly thrown out at first base after hustling down the line.

SEDRO-WOOLLEY – In a true pitcher’s duel, the Lions weren’t able to overcome top-seeded Sedro-Woolley as the Cubs defeated Lynden 2-1 at Janicki Fields on Friday Night.

Sedro-Woolley was able to gain a 1-0 lead early in the second inning, and added another in the bottom of the fifth inning on a bases loaded ground out.

The Lions then got a little something going in the top of the sixth inning when Melanie Anderson hit a single to left field with one out. She then advanced to second base on a passed ball, and eventually scored on a line drive double to left field off the bat of Grace Potter.

It appeared for a split second that Childrey DeJong’s line shot was going to possibly drive Potter in to tie the game, but a tremendous catch was made at third base to halt any possibilities on that play. The momentum swung back to the Bubs after that play, and followed it up with a strikeout to end Lynden’s inning.

The Lions put up a tremendous effort in the final inning as Trinity Andrew singled to right field with one out, and Sierra Lankhaar came in to run for her. Lankhaar then took second base on a wild pitch, and eventually advanced to third base when Lucy White’s ground ball to second base was mishandled.

However, that was as close as Lynden would get as a ground out ended the game moments later.

The Lions (16-7) will advance to the 2A state tournament in Selah this upcoming weekend, and their first opponent has yet to be determined.
