Lyncs Look Explosive on Offense and Defense

LYNDEN – After three quarters of football, the Lyncs had acquired 56 points, and the Eagles had totaled zero yards of offense. This coming in a district playoff game.

The fourth quarter was also played, and Lynden Christian walked away with a 56-7 victory over Cedar Park Christian, and the Lyncs will next play in the 1A state playoffs.

Bootsma

Numerous LC players found the end zone, and it started when senior quarterback Trajan Schouten found senior wide receiver Bryce Bouwman on a 17-yard TD pass. Junior running back David Bootsma scored from six yards out on the following drive.

Senior running back Easton Stremler scored the first touchdown of the second quarter, after he gained most of yards in that particular possession. The junior connection of Logan Dykstra to Cole Moorlag was successful on an eight-yard touchdown pass, and Schouten threw a short pass to Bootsma just before half time, which he took 42 yards untouched for the score.

Star senior Jackson Corkill touched the ball just twice in the game. The first was a 25-yard run on a fly sweep, and the second was a 41-yard touchdown reception down the middle of the field from Schouten to open the second half.

Apol

Playing in his first game of the season after suffering a broken collarbone just days before the opening game, junior Jackson Apol made his presence known a few times. He made the tackle on the opening kickoff of the game, returned two punts for a total of 70 yards and he scored on a 1-yard touchdown run.

Junior running back Cody Bajema showed great balance on his one carry of the game the resulted in a 17-yard touchdown run to close out the third quarter.

The Lync defense stopped Cedar Park Christian for no gain, or a loss, on 22 plays. Senior defensive end Levi Korthuis had three tackles for loss, and Moorlag intercepted a pass and returned it 23 yards. This came moments after he intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown, but the play was called back because of a penalty.

Lynden Christian (8-1) nabbed the 7-seed and will host Cascade Christian (10-0) at Civic Stadium this Friday night in the first round of the 1A state playoffs.
