The Washington State Volleyball Coaches Association have voted every week for the top teams in the state, and all season the top two have been the Lions and the Wildcats.
Lynden’s power offense against the cat-like defense of Archbishop Murphy was on full display in the 2A District Championship game, but it was the Lions that came out quickly with wins of 25-9 and 25-13 in the first two sets.

The Wildcats started strong in the third set, and was up 8-0 early on. The two teams were even for a while, with Archbishop Murphy holding on to a large lead for most of the set. But, Lynden started to come back as both teams pushed each other hard during the final points. The Lions finally pulled off the complete comeback with a 30-28 win to take the match.
Senior outside hitters Lexi Hermanutz and Finley Parcher mirrored each other, as they each finished with 14 kills and 11 digs. Parcher added two aces, and Hermanutz had 1.5 blocks.
Izzie Stephan finished with 29 assists, as well as a team-high four aces, while Brooke McDonald powered home six kills and Sarah McVie returned to the lineup to add four kills and 1.5 blocks.
The win will send the Lions back to the 2A state tournament to defend their title.
