Squalicum 3, Clover Park 0
The Timberwolves executed a strong defensive gameplan in the first half, and kept the undefeated Storm off the scoreboard, but the second half was a different story as Squalicum came out on fire. Junior Maddox Strickland was able to score the first goal of the game, which finally shifted the momentum to them after the 45 minute stalemate. Scoring became contagious after that as David Leslie’s header off a corner kick gave the Storm some breathing room, and four minutes later it was Cody McCaulley who scored to put a bow on it. With the win, Squalicum will play Hockinson on Saturday. The time and location have yet to be determined, but it will likely take place at Civic Stadium.
Sehome 2, East Valley (Yakima) 1
The Mariners took one step closer to reaching their collective goal for the season as Mason Ivcevic scored in the fifth minute to give Sehome an early 1-0 lead, but the Red Devils were able to tie the game up and send it into overtime, and eventually into penalty kicks. It played out the exact same way for the Mariners as it did last week against Bellingham, as Luke Yawitz’s penalty kick clinched the win, and moved Sehome on to the quarterfinal round where it will face Fife on Saturday. Time and location are yet to be determined.
Lynden 3, Cedarcrest 2
After being down 1-0 in the first half, the Lions tied it up with a breakaway goal from Markus Koenen. Lynden then took the lead in the second half when Eddie Briseno punched it through heavy traffic from about 20 yards out, but the Red Wolves were able to knot the game up a few moments later. The game eventually went into penalty kicks, and sophomore goalkeeper Austin Postma shined as he denied three straight PK’s, and senior Branden Gonzalez’s penalty kick clinched the win for the Lions. Lynden will now face Columbia River on Saturday. Time and location are yet to be determined.
