2026 Baseball Roundup for Thursday – May 7th

Lynden junior Gordy Bedlington (far right) gets swarmed by his teammates after his walk-off hit against Bellingham in the bottom of the eighth inning.

2A District Playoffs:

Lynden 4, Bellingham 3

Sehome 8, Squalicum 0

Lynden 4, Bellingham 3

Walks and wild pitches in the first inning allowed the Bayhawks to jump ahead 3-0 before the Lions were able to step into the batter’s box. The situation was so dire for Lynden that a pitching change took place before the first out of the game, and Eli Dimter came in, threw over 100 pitches, and kept Bellingham off the scoreboard for five innings. In the meantime, the Lions kept plugging away with a run here and there, and in the bottom of the sixth it was a single to center field off the bat of Kannon Honcoop that allowed Dane Marti to score the game-tying run. Once Dimter hit his pitch-count limit, junior Gordy Bedlington moved from shortstop to the mound and proceeded to strike out four batters and allow just one hit over the next three innings. It also came down to Bedlington at the plate in the bottom of the eighth inning with the score tied at 3-3. With runners on third and second base with just one out, Bedlington was able to stroke the ball to the opposite field, and with the ball tailing, it became hard to make a play on and it dropped in for a double, which scored Jax Baar from third base and won the game for the Lions. Lynden will now face Anacortes in the semifinal round of the 2A district tournament at 3:30 on Saturday at Daniels Field in Anacortes. Bellingham is still alive and will also be in action on the same day, at the same field against Lakewood at 10:00 AM.

Sehome 8, Squalicum 0

The top-seeded Mariners got off to a hot start when leadoff hitter Hudson Neff singled in the bottom of the first, and he eventually scored along with Riley Carlson when Jad Geiger hit a line drive to center field. Sehome then poured on four more runs in the bottom of the third inning, and Geiger twirled a gem on the mound as he allowed just three hits, no walks and struck out five in five innings of work. He also needed just 58 pitches to do so as the sophomore still has yet to allow a single run (earned or unearned) in his 19 innings of work on the mound. His baseball prowess didn’t end there as he also went 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs batted in and two runs scored. Travis Mead pitched the final two innings and struck out three. The Mariners move on to the semifinals of the district tournament and they will face Archbishop Murphy at 6:00 on Saturday at Daniels Field in Anacortes. The Storm will try to bounce back on Saturday afternoon when they take on Burlington-Edison in a loser-out game at 12:30 at the same baseball complex.
