Sehome 23, Squalicum 6

24 hours after an extra inning loss to Shorecest on the road, the Mariners rebounded to defeat the Storm. Sehome scored eight runs in each of the first two innings which supplied a comfortable lead for the rest of the game. Senior catcher Elyse Krout led the Mariner offense with three hits, including two doubles, and two runs batted in. Sehome also got a pair of hits from sophomores Sarah Kruzich and Lea Lamositele, and sophomore Jordan Walker reached base five times. Squalicum’s offense was led by leadoff hitter Gabi Gearhart who hit a double, scored two runs, stole two bases and drew a walk.

It’s what every young player dreams of. Tied game, bottom of the seventh, two outs, runners of base and you’re up to bat. Trojan junior Lorelai Margeson faced that exact scenario and came through in a big way with a double to left field to win the game. She finished the game batting 3-for-5 with two runs batted in and two runs scored. Senior Kaelyn Neevel also had three hits for Meridian. Senior pitcher Katie Prengaman struck out nine batters and picked up her third win of the season.

Lynden 11, Oak Harbor 3

The Lions scored five runs in the top of the fourth inning to break a 2-2 tie, and give them a lead which was never matched. Senior Trinity Andrew led with three hits and three runs batted in while junior Melanie Anderson had two hits, two walks and scored three runs. Andrew struck out five batters and picked up her fifth win in a row to start the season.

Mount Baker 13, Mount Vernon 11

With two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, and the game tied at 11, junior shortstop Annalee Cohn came up to the plate for the fifth time of the game and belted a 2-1 pitch over the wall for the walk-off win. It was the fourth homerun of the game for Mount Baker as junior catcher Gracie Zender hit two in her first two at bats, and senior pitcher Ava Jeretzky hit a three-run shot in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Mountaineers also got a pair of hits from senior Lauren Valum and sophomore Cadence Cloninger.

Lakewood 14, Ferndale 6

Junior catcher Kaelin Blakley hit a double and two homeruns, but it wasn’t enough as the Golden Eagles fell on the road to the Cougars. Blakley lifted her batting average over .800 and now has four round trippers and 13 runs batted in on the season. Ferndale also got hits from Mallory Butenschoen, Jaycena Lajuan and Sianna Bob. Butenschoen also struck out four batters, but took the loss.

Sedro-Woolley 22, Nooksack Valley 3

There was little that the Pioneers could do to stop the powerful Cubs who blasted 18 hits in the shortened game. All three Nooksack Valley runs came on solo homeruns which were hit by Lainey Kimball, Alayna Dykstra and Kestin Wagter.

Burlington-Edison 11, Lynden Christian 5

The Lyncs took a 2-0 lead after the first inning, but the Tigers tied it up in the second and added on in the third before running away with the victory. Senior Addie DeJong and freshman Roxanne Lenning each had two hits for Lynden Christian to lead the offense. Freshman Taya Vander Kooi also knocked in a pair of run for the Lyncs.

South Whidbey 21, Bellingham 6 (Game 1)

The Bayhawks put up some runs for the first time this season, but it wasn’t enough as the Falcons poured it on in game one of the double header. Bellingham senior A.J. Ochhipinti led offensively with a double, a triple and three runs batted in. Angelina Bellefeuille also collected two hits, including a double, for Bellingham.

It was more of the same in game two as the Falcons scored 11 of their runs over the first two innings. Bayhawk senior Cylee Burling had three hits and knocked in her team’s lone run. Cassie Berwick had the other Bellingham hit.
