Meridian 6, Blaine 5

The Borderites stormed back from a 6-0 deficit, but eventually ran out of innings as Meridian won the contest between two traditional 1A powers. It was a big win for the Trojans, which went back above .500. Freshman pitcher Jonah Aase picked up his fourth win of the season, and junior first baseman Tyrel Brooks hit a pair of doubles for Meridian.

Senior Connor Brueske smacked three hits offensively, and also struck out the side to close the game in a relief appearance to help secure the win for the Storm, and end a six-game losing streak. The Pioneers held a one-run lead going into the top of the seventh inning, but Squalicum rallied to score four quick runs. Senior catcher Nick Dykstra led Nooksack Valley offensively with a double and a single.

For the second night in a row, the Mountaineers led a late lead get away. This time it was a base-clearing triple by junior Lane Heeringa that gave the Lions a lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. Lincoln Van Diest picked up his third victory of the season, and leadoff hitter Ryan Kleindel smashed two hits. The Mountaineers were led offensively by sophomore first baseman Jesse Harward who had two hits, including a double.

Landon Kerzman and Jake Troost each had a pair of base hits, but it wasn’t enough in the low-scoring affair with the Wildcats. Kerzman also picked up the loss on the mound, despite not giving up a hit in three innings of work.

The Golden Eagles suffered another heart-breaking loss against a strong team, this time it was the Tigers that jumped out ahead during a 6-run fourth inning. Ferndale scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but eventually ran out of steam. Senior Ryan Pelton and junior Dylan Strom each had a pair of hits.

The Mariners got on the board early, with Carson Neff and Jacob Gillig each scoring in the first inning, but that would be all of the offensive excitement for Sehome. Neff continued his hot hitting, going 2-for-3, including a double.

The Seahawks bats proved to be too much for the Lyncs, as they pounded 16 hits and scored 14 runs in the five-inning contest. Infielders Austin Engels and Isaac Paxton each had two hits and two runs batted in.
