D. Kaemingk

Lynden Christian was really good last year…. it was actually a great team! It also just happened to be in the toughest 1A conference in the state, and was the odd team out. Many skill players are gone from last year’s squad, but a lot of the linemen return. There are also an eager group of youngsters that are excited about playing for the first time underneath the Friday night lights.

The graduation of Ty Van Dyken means that there will be a new signal caller. But, who will it be? Senior Payton Robertson is extremely athletic, and got some run last year at

Robertson

quarterback. But, there are also a pair of juniors that have impressed in Trajan Schouten and Bryce Bouwman.

Replacing the dynamic Jordan Riddle at running back will be juniors Easton Stremler and Luke Korthuis. Stremler emerged in camp at Eastern Washington University this past summer and Korthuis would have had much more playing time last year, but he broke his foot in the first game of the season. Both players will run behind senior H-Back Sam Faber. The 190-pounder has bulked up and could spring some huge holes for the junior backs.

Faber

Senior Jalen Apol returns as a receiver and will be joined by a host of players that are eager to show what they can do at the varsity level. Juniors Jackson Corkill, Tanner Feenstra, Jude Veltkamp and Carter VanderWerff will all get their time to shine, and each of them have something unique to bring to the field. 6-foot-3 230-pound junior Zach Sipma had some big moments last season, and returns as a tight end/H-Back type of player.

The offensive line will remain a strength for the Lyncs. 240-pound senior Dylan Kaemingk returns, and will anchor the line. Senior Simon Anker will be at center, which will be vital

Sipma

in LC’s shot gun offense. Jake Libolt also returns after getting valuable time last season. The other spots are up for grabs, but I expect to see 255-pound junior Kase Lautenbach to get some run.

Kaemingk and Sipma will fill the interior of the defensive line, with Anker and Libolt as the defensive ends. Lautenbach will fill in at defensive tackle along with junior Luke Timmer, and Schouten will also play some defensive end.

Anker

Junior Davis Gatterman will be the strong side linebacker, and lining up next to him will be Korthuis. Faber will control the weak side, and is one the smartest players on defense. Stremler will also be a linebacker of sorts, sometimes with his hand on the ground, and sometimes drifting back into coverage.

Corkill and Veltkamp will start as the corner backs, and Bouwman, Apol and Robertson will be the safeties. Senior Blake DeRuyter punted last season and will now do double duty as the kicker as well. Coach Kaemingk that DeRuyter will be a definite strength for the Lyncs this season.
