The offensive line for Ferndale was in control.

FERNDALE – What started as a fierce wind blowing through downtown Ferndale eventually turned into a calm breeze. But, the ferocity of the Golden Eagle attack didn’t let up all evening as Ferndale beat Stanwood 54-19 on Friday night.

Ledbetter

The offensive output was the greatest a Ferndale team has had since it faced the Spartans two season ago as the Golden Eagles totaled 547 of total offense and had 40 points scored at half time. The offensive line, led by senior guards Geirean Hatchett and Malachi Ledbetter, was on top of it’s game all evening.

Ferndale was perfect through the air and on the ground in the early going. Junior Haiden Rasmussen didn’t throw an incompletion early on. In fact, his only two attempts went for touchdowns. Along with freshman Isaiah Carlson’s two first quarter touchdown runs, sophomore Ryan Pelton also had two touchdowns in the first half, including a 65-yard burst up the middle. However, an apparent ankle/foot injury slowed Pelton down once he reached the end zone. He finished with 137 yards from scrimmage on just six touches.

Kolbert

Senior Mark Kolbert took over at fullback, and also scored two touchdowns. He also broke off a 71-yard run, and ended with 100 yards rushing on seven carries.

Stanwood settled for two long field goals in the first half, including a 43-yarder just before halftime.

Senior Jacob Broselle totaled 236 all-purpose yards while defending two passes on defense. His sophomore brother, Thomas, had four solo tackles while defending four passes.

The Golden Eagle defense stopped Stanwood behind the line of scrimmage nine times, and it was led by junior linebacker Kobe Sandstrom and junior safety Andrew Monks.

Ferndale (4-4) will host Shorecrest (6-2) on Friday in a district playoff game.
