BLAINE – The Golden Eagles took care of business on senior night by defeating Marysville-Getchell 46-7 on Friday night at Blaine High School.
Senior running back Ryan Pelton ran for 132 yards and career-high four touchdowns on just 10 carries, and Ferndale as a team put up 362 yards rushing for the game.
Senior fullback Elijah McCormick added a pair of first half rushing touchdowns, and finished with 76 yards on seven carries, and fellow senior Thomas Broselle picked up 69 yards rushing on five carries.
The Golden Eagle defense was strong all game, with 22 different players getting in on tackles. Senior defensive end Xander Castleberry had two tackles for a loss, while also catching two passes for 32 yards from his tight end position.
There was also a four-play segment just before halftime in which senior Jesse Sapp let his presence be known.
He defended two passes in a row on 2nd and 3rd down while play cornerback. On the following play, junior Jake Mason blocked a field goal attempt, and Sapp scooped the ball and returned it 46 yards to the Charger 15-yard line. And, on the very next play Sapp caught a 15-yard fade pass from senior Mark Schlichting for a touchdown.
Schlichting finished with five completions for 130 yards, his exact numbers from a week ago, and by doing so he became the fifth player in school history to pass for over 1000 yards in a season.
With the victory, Ferndale moves to 7-1 on the season, and will get to continue play in the postseason.
