FOOTBALL

2017 Season

As a sophomore, he was used mostly on special teams, excelling in covering kickoffs. He made tackles on kickoffs in four of the first five games of the season. Against Cashmere he had a solo tackle and two assisted tackles. The Lyncs finished the season with a 3-6 record.

2018 Season

As a junior, he began the season starting at left guard on offense and inside linebacker on defense and never looked back. Lynden Christian began the season with a great game against Bellingham, as he racked up 7.5 tackles, including his first varsity quarterback sack. Two weeks later, against Blaine, he scored his only varsity touchdown on a fumble recovery in the end zone. He also finished that game with eight tackles, including three tackles for loss. In week five against Nooksack Valley, he intercepted two passes, showing his overall greatness at the linebacker position. It was also the first time in 16 years that the Lyncs made it to the state semifinals, in which Gatterman played a great game against Newport, as he totaled a career-high 11.5 tackles to go along with 2.5 tackles for loss. The Lyncs finished with a 10-3 record, and he finished the season leading his team in fumble recoveries, and was second on the team in tackles and tackles for loss. He was also named #80 on the Whatcom Preps Top 100 List.

2018 SEASON STATISTICS

2019 Season

The Lyncs returned for an even bigger season in Gatterman’s senior year. After wearing #58 the previous two seasons, he switched to #55 for his senior year. He had eight tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss in a 17-0 win against Blaine, and he also had five tackles and two sacks in a 33-0 win against Nooksack Valley. The Lyncs finished with a share of the Northwest Conference 1A championship, and headed back to the state playoffs. The Lyncs ultimately reached the state championship game, for the third time in school history, and the first time in 22 years. They were narrowly defeated by Royal, 26-22, in one of the best state championship games in Whatcom County history. He was third on the team in tackles, and fourth on the team in both tackles for loss and quarterback sacks. After the season was over he was named All-Conference 1st Team at linebacker, and he was also named #35 on the Whatcom Preps Top 100 List.

2019 SEASON STATISTICS

Football Career

In the two seasons that he started both ways, the Lyncs went 21-5. He’s regarded as one of the best linebackers in recent history of the Lynden Christian program. He was named to the Lynden Christian 2010’s All-Decade First Team as a linebacker, and his 137 career tackles is the most by a Lync since 2015. After graduation he signed on to play college football at Northwest College in Iowa to play fullback. In 2022 he became a National Champion as his Red Raiders downed Keiser (FL) 35-25 to win the school’s first national championship since 1983, when his high school football head coach, Dan Kaemingk, started there as a cornerback.
