2026 Girls 2A Tennis Districts Roundup

The Lynden duo of Rilanna Newcomb and Avery Brooks won the doubles 2A district championship.

BELLINGHAM – Since late last week, the best tennis players in the Northwest Conference 2A have been playing at Sehome High School to find out who will be moving on to the state tournament.

In singles competition, Halley Brooks of Lynden took first place as she defeated Sehome’s Gabriela Gracia-Salgado 6-1, 6-0. Both will be going to state, as Gracia-Salgado will be competing for the first time and Brooks returns after winning the doubles state championship last season with her sister, Avery.

Bellingham’s Ivy Brooks was narrowly defeated by Jaydn Champion of Lakewood 4-6, 6-3 and 6-4, for third place in the district tournament, and Champion will be a state alternate.

It was the same format in the doubles tournament as Avery Brooks and Rilanna Newcomb of Lynden defeated Ada Walker and Molly Walker of Squalicum 6-0, 6-1 for the championship.

The Walker sisters then battled Amelie Everett and Maria Horja of Sehome, who had come out of the consolation bracket unharmed, and the Mariner dropped the first set 6-2, but came back to win the next two 6-3 and 6-4 to stamp their ticket to the state tournament. The Storm sisters finished in third, and will be state alternates.

As a team, Lynden won the district championship.

The state tournament will begin on Friday, May 22nd at the Nordstrom Center in Seattle.
