- Gavin Guttormson – Lynden baseball – The senior pitcher struck out 12 batters over 5 2/3 innings against Squalicum on Monday without allowing a single hit.
- Trevek McMillen – Nooksack Valley baseball – The junior third baseman went 3-for-4 against Meridian on Monday including a perfectly placed suicide squeeze bunt, a double down the left-field line, and he was at the plate when the winning runs came across to score with two outs in the bottom of the seventh.
- Aaron Garza – Blaine baseball – On Tuesday afternoon, the junior shortstop went 3-for-3 with two doubles against Mount Baker. He also reached base with a walk and a hit by pitch, and then topped it off by pitching the final two innings, and striking out four batters without allowing a hit.
- Fenton Vasak – Ferndale baseball – 24 hours after striking out 13 Lakewood batters, the senior centerfielder went 3-for 5 with a double and he also knocked in four of his team’s six runs in a 9-inning win over Anacortes.
- Kjirsten Ludeman – Sehome Track and Field – Another week, and yet another Whatcom County record broken. This time, the sophomore did it in the 400-meter dash as she got around the track in a blistering 55.95 seconds on Saturday at the Birger Solberg Invitational at Civic Stadium. The previous record stood for 14 years. She was also a part of the 4×400 relay team that took first place.

Watching Fenton Vasak on the field (and on the mound, AND in the batter’s box) is like watching the very best of what baseball can offer and provide. This young athlete has a bright future ahead of him, and I have no doubt ghat we will be seeing more of him after he finishes his senior year at Ferndale!!
