Whatcom Preps Analysis:
My highest ranked underclassman. From the first time I saw him play, which was his first varsity game last season at Meridian when he walked after a 12-pitch at-bat, I knew immediately he was something special. He was batting well over .500 this year before an injury forced him to bat right-handed the remainder of the season. He lives and breathes baseball. He also makes every play at short stop, and makes it look extremely easy. He led his team in runs scored, hits, triples, walks, and batting average. One of my personal favorites to watch.
Coach’s Comment:
“Axel is a guy that’s played a ton of baseball over the years and it shows. He’s comfortable in most situations and relies on that experience in big moments. Axel moved back to Blaine after living in Hawaii for a number of years, since he’s shown up he’s done nothing but hit. He’s a legit switch hitter (when healthy) that can handle plus velocity and has an advanced hitting approach for his age. The guys look to him for leadership and he has a ton of confidence in himself to get things done in the big situation. Axel will continue to be our leader heading into next season and will look to fill a lot of innings on the mound for us”
