BELLINGHAM – Off to a 5-2 start, the Lynden baseball team is looking quite sharp. Of course, the rest of the league is aware of the 1-2 punch on the mound of Trevin Hope and James Marsh, but junior southpaw Dylan Parcels showed his new teammates what he’s all about. The Blaine transfer gave up just one hit, and struck out nine against Squalicum on Tuesday, as the Lions defeated the Storm 6-1 at Joe Martin Field.

“Squalicum had good plate approaches,” Lynden coach Cory White said. “After the second inning he started getting ahead of hitters. He can be effectively wild, and it works for him.”

Parcels did walk six batters, one of which (Owen McCord) scored in the second inning on a perfectly executed suicide squeeze by Tate Carlson. But, Parcels retired the next 11 batters in a row and got into a groove.

Offensively, the Lions were led by the potent top of the order. Shortstop Marcos Vander Veen scored three runs after getting on base with a double, a single and a base on balls. Trevor Abitia scored a pair of runs, and Hope hit a pair of doubles and had two RBI’s.

Lynden hopes to stay hot today at 4:00 when they host Sedro Wooley (4-2), and Squalicum (3-4) will look to bounce back today at 4:15 at Meridian (3-2).
