GRANITE FALLS – The Mount Baker offense gained 547 yards, and the defense gave up just 61 yards as the Mountaineers broke their two-game losing streak at defeated the Tigers 61-0 at Granite Falls High School on Tuesday night.
“I thought we came out ready to do our job,” Mount Baker coach Ron Lepper said in a phone interview on The Doug Lange Network. “The defense and the offense were clicking kind of early. And then we were able to make some big plays early, put the ball in the end zone and get things rolling.”
In fact, it was seven different Mounties that got into the end zone, with senior wide receiver Michael Kentner and sophomore running back Toby Jefferson each scoring twice. Junior running back Jason Lee had a touchdown that was called back.
Senior quarterback Kaleb Bass scored the first touchdown of the game on a one yard sneak. He also completed 5-of-7 passes for 120 yards and three touchdowns. Senior running back Sam Barrett ran for a team-high 132 yards on just six carries, and a touchdown. Junior tight end Waylon Kentner scored on a 16-yard touchdown reception, and wing-backs Kobee Malone and Ayden Rodriguez each scored on touchdown runs.
The defense also played a great game, with seniors Jay Allen, Owyn Alvino-Vance and juniors Kris Flowers and Cody Saulsbury all making plays behind the line of scrimmage. Baker also got interceptions from Bass, junior Mark Tikhonov and sophomore Mason Jacoby.
The win advances Mount Baker (6-4) to the district playoffs where it will face Cedar Park Christian (7-1) at Juanita High School on Saturday at 2:00.
