LAUREL – Nooksack Valley’s undefeated streak of four matches to start the season ended on Tuesday night when the Trojans hosted the Pioneers, and won three sets to one.

After winning the first set 27-25, Meridian fell to Nooksack Valley in the second set, 25-20. A strong defense and a consistent attacking game helped the Trojans to win the next two sets 25-20 and 25-21.

Junior Finnley Claeys led Meridian with 15 kills (.308 hitting percentage), 21 digs and three aces. Fellow junior Jolena Hoefer put up similar numbers as she added 14 kills, 13 digs and two aces. Freshman Emry Claeys had 12 kills.

Senior Brynn Neal (19 digs) and junior Malaysia Smith (17 digs) led defensively, and Smith also added a phenomenal 46 assists.

The Pioneers were led by Jenna Compton (19 kills, 26 digs and four aces), Maya Galley (11 kills and 23 digs) and Lexi Strong (46 assists).

The Trojans (4-2) will host Bellingham (2-2) on Saturday at 7:00. Nooksack Valley (4-1) will host Mount Baker (0-6) on Thursday at 7:15.
