NINE MILE FALLS – The Lyncs gave the Eagles too many short fields, and gave up a few big plays as Lakeside defeated Lynden Christian 14-8 on Friday night.

After forcing a three-and-out, LC got the ball and drove nearly 50 yards before turning it over on downs. The two traded punts for the rest of the quarter, but the Lyncs got their first big play of the game in the second quarter.

Stuit

With possession on the Eagle 39-yard line, senior quarterback Jeremiah Wright completed a 5-yard hitch to senior Kayden Stuit. The 230-pound tight end then broke two tackles and sprinted past the rest of the Lakeside defense for a 39-yard touchdown.

The snap was high on the ensuing point after try, and sophomore holder Eli Maberry took the ball, rolled to his right and threw a pass into the end zone which was deflected by the defense, and then caught out of mid-air by senior Treven Blair for the two-point conversion.

The Eagles finally got their initial first down of the game on the following drive, on a dazzling run for 37 yards, which also brought Lakeside into the red zone. They went on to score four plays later on a 3-yard touchdown pass, and tied it up with a 2-pointer of their own.

Senior Dawson Bouma returned the ensuing kickoff 78 yards, which set the Lyncs up nicely right before halftime, but an incomplete pass on fourth down left them without points.

Bosman

Lakeside began finding success on sweep runs, and were able to make it deep into Lync territory three times in the second half, with each drive ending in field goal attempts, in which the Eagles made two of them.

The LC offense was contained for the most part in the second half, and was intercepted four times throughout the entire game.

Defensively, inside linebackers Stuit and junior Trey Bosman combined for nearly half of their team’s total tackles, and senior outside linebacker Bryce Bouwman had three stops behind the line of scrimmage.

Lynden Christian (0-1) will travel to Archbishop Murphy (1-0) on Friday to take on the Wildcats at 7:00.
