LAUREL – The Meridian volleyball team was still riding the momentum wave from Monday’s win over Ferndale, and beat Lynden 25-22 in the first set. However, the Lions came back to win the following three sets (25-18, 25-20 and 25-22) to stay unbeaten on Wednesday night at Meridian High School.

Lynden’s senior combination of Anna VanderYacht (22 kills, 18 digs) and Faith Baar (15 kills, two blocks) proved to be too much for Meridian.

Lion freshman Grace Rice was all over the floor with 44 assists, while freshman Mya VanderYacht’s defense (25 digs), and senior Sierra McPhail’s serving (six aces), was enough to keep Lynden’s winning streak alive.

The Trojans were led by junior Finnley Claeys who totaled 21 digs, eight kills and two aces, and senior Kadance Blankers who had 16 digs and two aces.

The Lions (3-0) will host Mount Baker (0-4) on Saturday at 3:00, and Meridian (2-2) will next play at Blaine (1-3) on Saturday at 1:30.
