RICHLAND – District Champions, and the first 20-win season for a Lynden Christian fastpitch team. The Lyncs have a lot to be proud of. After beating Connell 13-4 in round one of the 1A State Fastpitch Playoffs, LC lost to Castle Rock 8-4 and then Montesano 3-1.

Van Loo

“I can’t say enough about Sam Van Loo,” Lyncs coach Mitch Moorlag said. “She threw 20 innings today. Kudos to the athlete, competitor and fighter that she is. I would have had to drag her out of that final game.”

That game was against Montesano, which most experts would have predicted the Bulldogs were the favorite of this tournament.

“We ran into an upset, state-champion hopeful team” said Moorlag. “The tears in the eyes of my players right now… I don’t think that they are sad that the season is over, necessarily. I think they are sad because it’s the last time this group gets to play together.”

Lynden Christian scored its run against Montesano when Shanoah Whittern knocked a triple to right center field. Van Loo scored Whittern with a ground ball out.
