Squalicum 5, Lynden 0

In the 2A District Championship Game, the Storm showed why they were the top seed as sophomore David Leslie scored the first goal of the game with a deader off a corner kick from senior Isaac Grimes. Late first half goals from junior Nico Jurado-Reyes and freshman Eli Weener made it a 3-0 game at the half. The score stood until a powerful left-footed shot on goal by sophomore Rylan Jenkins sailed over the goalie’s reach and into the back of the net from nearly 100 feet out. In the final five minutes, Squalicum’s final goal came from freshman Olivar Hoglin from close range. The Storm and the Lions will await their draw for the 2A State Tournament.

Sehome 1, Bellingham 0

In a loser-out game between the two rival schools, goalkeepers Bane Mitchell of Sehome and Matthew Luxtrum of Bellingham each had a phenomenal game as zero goals were allowed in regulation time, or the two overtime periods. It came down to penalty kicks, and when Mitchell denied the first two Bayhawk attempts, it really swung the momentum in the favor of the Mariners. Mitchell even supplied one of the penalty kicks for his own team, and when sophomore forward Luke Yawitz punched in his penalty kick, it ended the season for Bellingham. It also meant that Sehome will play a crossover, winner-to-state/loser-out contest with Ellensburg, which will be played at 3:00 on Saturday at Ellensburg High School.
