  • Meridian 83, Friday Harbor 50

The Trojans jumped out to a 49-25 lead at halftime and cruised to the road victory.

Junior Talon Jenkins had the hot hand, as he shot 10-of-13 from the field and finished with 25 points, while senior Cohen Fuller and junior Jaeger Fyfe each scored 11 points.

Senior Taran Burks hustled all game to earn nine points, six rebounds, six steals and four assists, while junior center James Hedahl was strong inside with 10 points and seven rebounds.

 

  • Bellingham 63, Granite Falls 39

The Bayhawks scored the first 12 point of the game, and rebounded their way to victory in their season opener on the road.

Bellingham finished with 45 rebounds on the night, with senior Wyatt Stephan grabbing 11 and senior Elias Togagae controlling 10. Stephan was also the leading scorer with 19 points to go along with his three assists and three steals.

Junior Kincade Van Houten racked up 12 points, six rebounds and three steals, and junior Harmon Wienkers finished with 11 points, including three 3-pointers.

 

  • Lynden 77, Tamanawis Secondary (BC) 50

The two-time defending state champion Lions started out their season in a familiar spot at the top of the rankings and didn’t disappoint in their first game of the season, despite three new starters.

Returning starter, junior forward Brant Heppner kickstarted the Lions’ season with a quick 11 points in the first quarter and it was off to races for Lynden. The Lions racked up 41 points in the first half and held a 19-point lead when the teams headed to the locker rooms. They continued to expand their lead into the second half as they allowed the players on their bench to finish the job.

Senior guard, Anthony Canales led his team in scoring with 29 points, while Heppner finished with 22 points. Sophomore guard Dani Bowler helped out the effort with seven points.
