  • Lynden 76, Oak Harbor 39

The Lions shared the ball extremely well, and found the open man often, with led to a .517 shooting percentage from the field, and a .450 shooting percentage from downtown as Lynden won its second game in a row to start the season.

Senior guard Anthony Canales poured in 33 points, and had 20 at the half. He was also extremely efficient by shooting 13-for-18, and he also threw down an impressive two handed dunk on a back door cut and a bounce pass from junior Brant Heppner.

Heppner finished with 11 points and seven rebounds, while senior guard Charlie Ayres pumped in three 3-pointers and he finished with 10 points.

Perhaps the most impressive thing about the game was that nine different players had an assist, as the unselfish Lions finished with 19 assists on the night.

  • Sehome 33, Squalicum 32

During pregame, Storm junior forward Jaxon Hofer was feeling it.

Standing just a few feet away from me, he knocked down at least eight 3-pointers in a row. A few hours later, with the final seconds winding down his team was down by three points. Junior guard Marcus Nixon got him the ball, and Hofer heaved up a shot that went through the hoop as the clock reached 0:00.

Although it was a miraculous shot, he was just in front of the three-point line, and the Mariners game away with the one-point victory.

Neither team could get into a rhythm early, as Sehome was turning the ball over too much, and Squalicum shot just 2-of-28 in the first half.

The second half produced much better basketball, and a memorable finish.

The Mariners were led by the 10 points by sophomore point guard Nolan Wright, who also went 4-for-4 from the foul line during the final 21 seconds of the game to help his team come out on top. Senior center Braddock Duckworth was strong defensively with a team-high nine rebounds and two blocked shots.

Nixon led the way for the Storm with 12 points, seven rebounds and four steals, all of which were team-highs.
