Storm Rack Up 67 Points in Blowout Win

BELLINGHAM – Last week, Marysville-Pilchuck made the trek up I-5 to face Sehome, and it didn’t go well. It was a similar result on Saturday night as Squalicum defeated the Tomahawks 67-0 at Civic Stadim.

Ash. Asbjornsen

More than half of the Strom’s points came in the first 12 minutes as 99% of the opening quarter was played on just one side of the field. The endzone on the scoreboard side welcomed sophomore Asher Asbjornsen three times, as well as senior quarter Cole Burke once and sophomore running back D.J. Hill once.

Asbjornsen’s first two touchdowns came on the ground, and his third was a 21-yard interception return for a score.

Sophomore kicker Elias Larranaga connected on a 20-yard field goal in the second quarter, and Squalicum also got a touchdown on a pass from Burke to his favorite target, senior wide receiver Ansen Asbjornsen, who finished with seven receptions for 106 yards.

Scammell

Asher Asbjornsen scored his fourth touchdown of the game in the third quarter, and that was followed up by a Marsyville-Pilchuck special teams mishap that ended up with the ball loose in the endzone. The always alert Zack Watt fell on it, and the senior safety scored his first varsity touchdown.

The backups ruled most of the second half, and standing out was junior running back Maddox Strickland who scored a 20-yard touchdown, and finished the game with a team-high 69 yards on rushing on just four carries.

Burke was also extremely efficient as he completed 12 of his 13 pass attempts for 165 yards.

The stout Storm defense allowed just 66 yards of total offense, and was led by sophomore inside linebacker Brock Scammell who had six tackles, including a tackle behind the line of scrimmage.

Squalicum (1-1) will face a much bigger task next week when it hosts Archbishop Murphy (2-0) at 7:00 on Friday.
