BELLINGHAM – News Flash: The Wildcats are the real deal. OK, maybe it’s not news, but this year’s team makes last year’s semifinal team look slow and small, which is scary for the rest of the 2A Northwest Conference, as well as the state.
Archbishop Murphy secured a running clock at halftime, and ended up defeating Squalicum 47-0 at Civic Stadium on Friday night.

The Wildcats rolled up 373 yards on the ground, and averaged nearly 15 yards per carry. They scored three touchdowns and record a safety in the first quarter, including a touchdown on their first play from scrimmage.
They scored two more touchdowns in the second quarter, and kicked a 26-yard field goal just before halftime to make it 40-0.
The Storm showed sparks here and there, including tackles for loss by seniors Avery Weener and Zack Watt. Watt’s included a forced fumble as well. Offensively, sophomore Asher Asbjornsen had a 26-yard run, and the senior connection of Cole Burke and Ansen Asbjornsen hooked up on a 36-yard completion.
Junior backup running back Maddox Strickland once again led Squalicum in rushing, this time rushing for 49 yards on five fourth-quarter carries.
The Storm (1-2) will be back in action on Friday when they travel to Lakewood (0-3) to take on the Cougars.
