BREWSTER – Lynden Christian struggled early on, but scored 45 straight points to pick up the 45-21 win over Lakeside-Nine Mile Falls on Saturday afternoon at Brewster High School.
The Eagles looked sharp early on, and were able to drive down the field and score to begin the game. It was followed up with an interception, and another strong touchdown scoring drive.

Perhaps it was playing their third road game in four weeks? Maybe Lakeside was up for the challenge of facing one of the top 1A teams in the state? Whatever it was, the Lyncs flipped the script after that and went on a scoring tear.
Their first touchdown was a perfectly thrown rainbow pass by senior quarterback Eli Maberry into the corner of the end zone where senior wide receiver Boyce Robertson hauled it in from five yards out. By doing so, he became the first player in school history to reach 20 receiving touchdowns in his career.
Junior running back Chris Kooiman scored on a 15-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, and that was followed by an 11-yard keeper by Maberry for a touchdown, and LC took over the lead at 21-14 before halftime.

The second half belonged to Lynden Christian as Kooiman continued to break tackles over and over again in long-sustaining drives. He ended up scoring twice more in the third quarter and finished the game with 130 yards on a career-high 23 attempts, and three touchdowns.
Maberry hit wide receiver Wyatt Kamphouse on a shovel pass which the speedy junior then took 17 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter. LC’s scoring concluded late in the game when sophomore kicker Jackson Yun booted a 47-yard field goal. (I’m still researching to see if that’s a school record for distance).
The Eagles scored their last touchdown of the game with less than a minute to go.
The Lynden Christian defense had numerous standouts as sophomore linebacker Gavin VanLoo led the team with 15.5 tackles, including a tackle for loss and a pass defended. Senior safety Gunner DeKoster finished with 6.5 tackles, two passes broken up and a sack, and junior outside linebacker Kaden Veldman had 5.5 tackles, two tackles for loss and a pass broken up.
The Lyncs (4-0) will begin conference play at home on Friday when they host Blaine (1-3) at 7:00.
