YAKIMA – It was fast, it was physical, and it didn’t go the way of the Lions who fell to Renton 46-36 in the first round of the 2A boys state tournament.

After averaging 12 points per quarter in the first half, Lynden was able to manage just 12 points in the entire second half as the defensive pressure of the Red Hawks made life uncomfortable for the Lions.
Lynden turned the ball over 17 times and converted on just over one quarter of its field goal attempts, a combination that rarely hauls in a victory. It wasn’t sloppiness, though, as Renton’s defense was relentless from the opening jump.
Senior forward Spencer Adams finished with 11 points and nine rebounds, and junior guard Malachi Koenen nailed a trio of three-pointers and scored 11 points.
Senior center Ty Jorgenson added nine points, eight rebounds and a team-high three steals.
The loss ends Lynden’s season with a record of 18-8.
